Day of the Dead

This morning Florence and i have been making our Day of the Dead shrine for our ancestors. We included representations of the four elements, earth, wind, water and fire as flowers a flag and candles. We then placed photographs of dead members of our family around other decorations including my Nannas rosary beads.
We will of course carve a pumpkin as well, but it's nice to remember  all the people we are made from.

Bristol Street Art

Well done all involved at the Bristol Street Art Festival on Nelson Street at the weekend. Allot of fun was had by all,sat about on deckchairs on astroturf with a cheeky cider in the sunshine watching all the creativity. Nelson street has to normally be one of the most depressing streets to walk down, grey concrete buildings, offices and car parks, you know the scene, however plants and art did wonders! Hopefully this can be the start of a continued rejuvenation of the lost spaces in our city.

Larma Tree

I had a fab time away at the Larma Tree Festival at the weekend despite the rotten weather...yes wellies again! I just love discovering new quality music there and enjoying a few old favourites like The Dodge Brothers and the Fat 45 s. The first is a quality skiffle band with Mark Kermode behind the double bass. They delivered a thumping session of boogie, skiffle, country and blues on the beautiful garden stage.  The Fat 45 s are friends from Brighton , a 11 piece big band playing music from the 40 s and 50 s. They got the big top a rocking on the friday night, it was good to get a proper dance in!
It really is a quality festival and the comedy tent was as excellent as always delivering names like Russel Kane and Arther Smith. One last gush for my new found band, Gabby Young and the Other Animals....her voice was sublime and stage presence wonderful...ah a real treat!

Glastonbury and the Village Disco

It was that time of year again for a dose of  midsummer madness with the world famous Village Disco boys and girls! Dispite the rain pouring over the crowd and most the stage people still gathered on friday night. The disco anti cool Dads spun their finest tunes and had everyone doing everything from disco dancing, moshing to air guitaring all with alot of smiles! Saturday night it went off! This time we were the farmers and their wives. I had so much fun. We did one other gig on the sunday afternoon very different in the the wonderful sushine. We were the Pilton Plum Coats and led the sunday afternoon exercises and games.

I did manage to get to see some of the festival although my enthusiasm for sliding about in the mud did hamper my efforts....i had very little! BBKing was my high light along with looking at all the wonderful art in the shangri la fields.

Talented and Tattooed!

Annabella is a very talented fashion photography and special occasion make up artist, i do know this as i watched her work her magic at the Goldney hall wedding fair, however something else on her stand caught my eye! It was her beautiful tattoo on her arm. I'm not usually so bothered about them which is why why i surprised myself, by stopping to take a photo! She had it done by some clever person in New Zealand which is just as well or i might have been tempted to put my mid life crisis into full swing and get one!
Check out her web site which has nothing to do with tattoos... www.byannabella.co.uk

Film set dancing adventures!

Flo-jo's been busy this week what with talk of Lorraine from breakfast TV interested in showing our kits and the local papers coming round to see us to include us in their business pages. All flowing on nicely from my dancing with Hollywood A listers last week. Yes i know name dropping's a bit naff, yes i said that too, but hey you don't get to dance right in front of Cameron Dias ,Colin Firth and Alan Rickman to often now do you? I was hired as a Lindy hop dancer for a few scenes set in the gardens of a country house in the remake of the film Gambit. We were at a Venitian maskerade ball ,i even got to sit in a real gondela for a while! Glamour and glits aside it was rather cold and tiring working outside all night but we had such a fab time. Just having what felt like our own band to play swing music for us dancers was brilliant. Many thanks to Guy Barker and Ben Castle for being so good and keeping us smiling.

25 hens,1 royal wedding,1 real wedding and a camping trip party bbq!

Wow ..plenty of things packed into a beautifully sunny double bank holiday weekend!
Erika and I had two knicker making hen parties booked both with Cox and Baloney. With the first group we were a little bit anxious because of the space and numbers we had to work with...17. There really was no need as the day ran smoothly with the hens juggling tea, coffee, cake, and shopping with learning new sewing skills to create their own pair of pants, finishing off with a babysham in Grandma's best china.
Everyone went away with a beautifully made pair of knickers all different and individually decorated.
Our second group was smaller, a little calmer, they had more time to put into their designs, we were rather impressed with the final products..well done ladies!

We're really pleased at how the space lends itself to our workshops and look forward to doing more there.

Shellac Sound

When the bands weren't playing we had the delight of listening to the music from the 1920's,30's and 40's on original wind-up gramophones. As a dancer you can imagine my toes tapping happily away. Ooo don't we just love those old 78's! Even though i manage to snap as many as i play on my Dansette at home!
Shellac sound is Matt Jones and Kate Wright ,gramophone enthusiasts from Bristol and i recomend there music and atmophere they create.
Always on look out to share things with like minded peeps...
